Sulman is developing a broad commercial practice. He has recently returned from secondment at Agon Litigation in the British Virgin Islands where he regularly appeared in the BVI Commercial Court and advised in a wide range of commercial matters including arbitration, company and insolvency, commercial fraud, urgent interlocutory applications (including freezing orders and asset disclosure applications) and probate.
Whilst on secondment, Sulman appeared (led) in various interlocutory hearings in Renova Industries Ltd & ors v Emmerson International Corporation & ors BVIHC (Com) 2013/160, involving joint venture claims said to be worth c.$1bn. Sulman was also led by Michael Fay QC for the appellant in BVIHCMAP 2018/0013 where, among other things, the decision of the BVI Commercial Court to grant leave to commence a derivative action under s.184C of the BVI Business Companies Act 2004 was successfully appealed.
Other recent work includes acting as junior counsel for the Defendant in Chen v Shen, proceedings concerning the ownership of a number of supercars in which the Claimant alleged an underlying multi-jurisdictional fraud in excess of $240m. Sulman also assisted in an UNCITRAL arbitration concerning claims of over US$150m relating to a joint venture for the production and marketing of base oil products.
Sulman was called to the BVI Bar in 2018.
