We are delighted to invite you to attend 2TG’s Personal Injury group seminar at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, New Bridge Street EC4. It will cover orthopaedic claims of the utmost severity with a particular focus on care aspects. It will comprise of talks by 4 members of the group who are specialists in this area together with a talk by Jane James, care and equipment expert, whose medico-legal work is widely known. The programme has the working title ‘Complex Issues in Orthopaedic Claims’, will commence at 2pm and will be followed at 5pm by a reception.

Ben Browne KC
Managing claims for paralysis and maximum severity arising from road accidents
Ben will address some particularly thorny questions that arise in care claims including double recovery, and causation where care would have been required in any event.
Lucy Wyles
Causation and mitigation in spinal claims
Lucy will consider caselaw illustrating how the courts get to grips with causation and mitigation issues in relation to back injuries, including questions of pre-existing conditions and successive accidents.
Sam Stevens
Provisional damages: unravelling the riddle of the syrinx
Sam will recap and update on the general principles of awards for provisional damages. He will then focus on how the courts have dealt with cases involving the development of a syrinx and the risk of syringomyelia.
Benjamin Phelps

Ben will address some particularly thorny questions that arise in care claims including double recovery, and causation where care would have been required in any event.
Jane James
The Key Drivers Affecting the Cost of Care
Jane James will be discussing the cost of care, different rates of pay and how they are calculated. Alongside this, Jane will discuss some of the challenges associated with care rates, including recruitment and retention, but also the complexity and levels of care required.
Registration is from 1.45pm and the seminar will commence promptly at 2pm.
