Lucinda Spearman practises in personal injury, product liability, and property damage. Her practice focuses on group litigation and cases with an international element.
Lucinda has extensive personal injury experience. She is instructed as junior counsel in the litigation arising out of the Grenfell Tower fire on behalf of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the RBKC Tenant Management Organisation, concerning over 1,100 litigated claims and 22 defendants. She acted for a central Government department in 11 cross-border historic asbestos exposure claims across three jurisdictions, appearing in both the High Court and Court of Appeal (led by Niazi Fetto KC). She is effective in handling complex private international law issues in both the personal injury arena and others, and represented the successful defendant as sole counsel before Mr Justice Griffiths in Troke v Amgen Seguros Generales Compania de Seguros y Reaseguros SAU [2020] EWHC 2976 (QB).
Lucinda was appointed to the Attorney General’s London C Panel of Junior Counsel to the Crown on 1 September 2023 and is regularly instructed by local and central Government. She has experience of navigating both public and private law issues. She worked as a junior junior in the Harry Dunn judicial review proceedings and the Infected Blood Inquiry. Lucinda has also advised in a claim arising out of a local council’s role in preventing a prospective foster carer from appearing on a foster register.
Lucinda is developing a practice in product liability. She has assisted in a number of fire and flood matters for both claimants and defendants, including in a multi-party Consumer Protection Act 1987 action concerning a heating system manufactured in Norway, a dispute between a supplier and an installer about responsibility for a fire that destroyed two properties, and a flood arising out of a defective coffee machine manufactured in Italy. She is currently instructed as junior counsel (led by Charles Dougherty KC) in group litigation arising out of allegations of ‘defeat devices’ affecting vehicle performance.
Before joining chambers, Lucinda graduated from the University of Cambridge with a First-class degree in Modern and Medieval Languages, where she received prizes for academic excellence and an outstanding dissertation. She subsequently completed the New Entrepreneurs Foundation programme and worked for a start-up business where she gave regular presentations to the board of a FTSE 250 company. She has also worked for television and theatre production companies in Spain, Bolivia and the United Kingdom.
Lucinda is building a property damage practice and has particular experience in claims concerning fires, floods and fallen trees. Highlights include acting as sole counsel in a claim arising out of Storm Dennis in which a 400-year-old Oak tree fell simultaneously on two Tesla cars owned by different people.
Lucinda accepts instructions in product liability from both claimants and defendants. She has experience of the Consumer Protection Act 1987, and has worked on multi-party cross-border claims in this area.
Lucinda has a wide range of experience in personal injury claims, including those arising out of accidents abroad, multi-party litigation and group litigation.
Lucinda regularly acts in cases concerning private international law issues. Highlights include work on a number of foreign claims concerning injuries to members of the armed forces, both as part of a team of counsel and on her own, and a successful High Court appeal on the issue of the law applicable to interest awards under the Rome II Regulation (Troke v Amgen Seguros Generales Compania de Seguros y Reaseguros SAU [2020] EWHC 2976 (QB)).
Lucinda has been instructed in a number of high-profile matters including the Harry Dunn judicial review proceedings and the Infected Blood Inquiry. She acts regularly for the Government, both in her own right and as junior counsel.
Lucinda has assisted on numerous commercial cases, including a claim for breach of confidence in relation to a chemical formula for a flooring product, a cross-border LCIA arbitration concerning a gas explosion at a power plant, and disputes concerning allegations of deceit and conspiracy. She has also represented a bank in the Chancery division in a claim worth £1.35m concerning the priority of interests on the Land Registry.

How I store your personal information
Your information is securely stored in Chambers or at my home. I use reasonable technical and organisational security measures such as password protection and encryption of computer generated data and keeping paper data secure to prevent personal information from being accidentally lost or destroyed, or used or accessed in an unauthorised way.
In this connection, Chambers, as data processor, acting on my behalf, will only process your personal data on my instructions and is subject to a duty of confidentiality.
The data will be held in line with any regulatory obligations and generally be kept for 6 years but may be 12 years, or longer where, for example, the case includes information relating to a minor, from the date of completion of instructions. At this point any further retention will be reviewed and the data will be marked for deletion or marked for retention for a further period.
All data will be securely deleted or securely shredded after this time without reference to you. I will store some of your information which I need to carry out conflict checks for the rest of my career. However, this is likely to be limited only to your name and contact details and the name of the case. It will not include any information that is “sensitive information” for GDPR purposes.
