Charles Dougherty QC will discuss the recent significant decision of the Court of Appeal in Schubert Murphy v Law Society  EWCA Civ 1295, where he acted for the successful firm.
The claim arose out of a fraud by a bogus firm of solicitors, which the Law Society had wrongly listed on its website as a genuine firm. The Court considered whether the Law Society could owe a duty of care in respect of a representation on its website as to whether someone is a solicitor.
The case engages two important points of general principle:
