The proceedings in the UK High Court between the claimants, campesinos living in the Putumayo region of Colombia and UK-based Amerisur Resources Ltd have been settled satisfactorily on a confidential basis, on payment of a monetary sum. The claims arose from an incident in 2015 when members of an illegal armed group forced tanker drivers, employed by a third party, transporting oil partially owned by Amerisur to discharge the tanker contents onto local wetlands. The claimants alleged that Amerisur was liable under Colombian law for the consequences of the spill while Amerisur denied that this was the case, and the settlement was reached with no admission of liability. The incident in question occurred prior to GeoPark’s acquisition of Amerisur in January 2020, and the parties are pleased to have resolved the UK proceedings. No further statement regarding the settlement will be made by either party to these proceedings or their legal representatives and this matter is now concluded.
