Work with an international dimension forms a significant part of many barristers’ work at 2TG.
We appear in international courts and arbitral tribunals all over the world, frequently acting on complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. We are particularly well-known for managing cross border litigation on matters of jurisdiction and applicable law and appear regularly in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.
At 2TG, in addition to our professional advice, we are recognised for our excellent contribution to education and development. We provide regular high-quality training.
Our reputation among the legal profession and other clients for our first-rate webinars and in-person conferences is very important to us. We also contribute frequently at industry events and as editors of leading texts and authors on topics of legal interest.
At 2TG, our experience in the travel sector is extensive and we are recognised as leaders in all areas of travel and aviation law.
Described by Legal 500 as “top of the line”, our barristers are known to be experts in jurisdiction and choice of law in cross-border personal injury claims, having been involved in almost all of the leading cases over the years.
We are ideally placed, due to our range of experience, to advise in the ever-expanding area of travel-related disputes, with counsel able to provide advice and representation in claims of all sizes. We represent claimants (as individuals and in group actions) and defendants. We act for and against airlines, tour operators, travel agents, hotel groups, cruise operators and their insurers.
We act across the entire range of litigation in the travel sector, in claims arising from accidents abroad or international travel by road, rail, air and sea. Members of the group handle claims for compensation under English and foreign law as well as under specific regimes such as the Montreal and Athens Conventions and the Package Travel Regulations. Our barristers are particularly well placed to advise on cases which have a cross-over with other practice areas to which members bring particular expertise, including insurance and contractual disputes, liability of carriers, product liability and clinical negligence. We are also instructed frequently in test and group litigation in respect of international personal injury.
Our real expertise in private international law sets us apart. Members frequently collaborate with the leading academics in the field both on specific cases and at events for practitioners and academics. Marie Louise Kinsler KC was appointed as the National Rapporteur for the UK and Ireland for the European Commission’s review into Rome II, which was published in 2021.
We are very experienced at working on issues of foreign law and regularly work with foreign lawyers in the increasing numbers of cases in which the English court is required to apply foreign law. We work in a number of languages, including French, German, Spanish, Dutch and Swedish.
Our group also deals with a wide range of travel cases including claims involving holiday sickness and medical tourism.
