Our barristers have an excellent understanding of the commercial realities and challenges facing the insurance sector.
We have considerable experience across the full range of commercial insurance and reinsurance disputes in arbitration and in court, both domestic and international and are frequently instructed in complex cross border litigation.
Described by Chambers and Partners as “a chambers with excellent bench strength in the form of both silks and juniors, all of whom engage in a broad array of insurance work”, our commitment to the insurance industry is demonstrated by the breadth and depth of specialist services provided across all classes of business. We are very proud of this ‘one stop shop’ capability.
Our insurance group handles all aspects of non-marine insurance and reinsurance disputes, including jurisdiction and choice of law issues, policy construction and coverage, scope of indemnity, effectiveness and scope of notifications and claims, non-disclosure, misrepresentation, aggregation, co-insurance and fraud and avoidance of cover for non-disclosure and misrepresentation.
We act for and against insurers and reinsurers and deal with all commercial policies, including those covering liability (management liability – such as D&O – employers’, public and product liability, and professional indemnity), property, financial and contingency risks, aviation risks and constructionon all risks insurance. Our team also has a particularly excellent reputation for advising on niche areas such as life and health insurance, including critical illness and PHI cover, and specialist cover including bloodstock insurance and terrorism insurance. Our involvement may range from policy interpretation to the robust cross examination necessary to defeat a fraudulent claim.
The past two years have brought a significant volume of work in relation to COVID especially in relation to business interruption, event cancellation, delay to start up, travel, life insurance, private health and supply chain interruption.
We are recognised as achieving innovative, expeditious and commercial solutions, both in the traditional role of counsel and as part of multidisciplinary teams. We can work in French, Swedish and German.
Both our chambers and many of our practitioners are recognised in the major legal directories and commended for our industry knowledge and the outstanding quality of our advocacy and advice in this sector.
